If any of these symptoms sound like you, read on.
Same time every month. Same breakout, same bloat, same mood swing. Most women are told to wash their face more or wait it out. The pattern is the point: skin that flares on a schedule is following your hormones, not your cleanser.
Deep, tender breakouts along your jaw, chin and neck in the week before your period
Acne that started or came back in your twenties or thirties
Cystic spots that sit under the skin for weeks and leave marks
Bloating that spikes premenstrually, alongside the breakout
PMS, breast tenderness and mood shifts that track with your cycle
Weight gain, especially around the midsection, that won't respond
Skin that clears mid-cycle, then flares again like clockwork
A skincare routine that works on everything except this
Cravings and sleep changes in the same premenstrual window
You've tried topicals, antibiotics or the pill and it keeps returning
These cluster together for a reason. Your monthly hormone story has a gut connection, and it is one of the few upstream causes you can actually work on daily.
Skin is downstream of hormones. Hormones are downstream of your gut.
The estrobolome is the group of gut bacteria that metabolize estrogen. First named in peer-reviewed science in 2011, it decides how much used estrogen gets recirculated back into your body versus cleanly excreted.1
Your liver tags used estrogen for removal
Once estrogen has done its job, the liver marks it "spent" through glucuronidation and sends it to the gut for elimination.
Your gut bacteria decide what happens next
Bacteria in the estrobolome produce beta-glucuronidase, which can cut that tag back off, reactivating the estrogen and returning it to circulation.2
Your skin reads the result
When estrogen falls out of step with androgens, oil production and follicular inflammation rise. That is the premenstrual flare you can set a calendar by.3
There is a second route, too. The gut–skin axis links intestinal barrier integrity and insulin signalling to acne directly, which is why a probiotic can reach skin at all.4 Nothing you apply to your face changes either pathway.
L. rhamnosus SP1, studied in adult acne for 12 weeks.
Most probiotics marketed for skin have no skin research behind the actual strain. Our hero strain does. In a pilot randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study published in Beneficial Microbes, 20 adults with acne took either L. rhamnosus SP1 or placebo daily for 12 weeks. Researchers took paired skin biopsies at the start and the end.4
Insulin signalling in the skin normalised
The probiotic group showed a 32% reduction in IGF-1 expression and a 65% increase in FOXO1 expression in skin tissue. Both are central to how insulin signalling drives sebum production and follicular growth. No such change appeared in the placebo group.4
Physicians rated the appearance of acne improved
On a five-point global improvement scale, the probiotic group had an adjusted odds ratio of 28.4 of being rated improved or markedly improved versus placebo. The authors concluded SP1 supplementation "improves the appearance of adult acne."4
A closer look at Hormone Balance ES1.
Built for the gut–hormone–skin axis. Nothing else in it.
Most acne supplements throw zinc and a botanical at the symptom. Hormone Balance ES1 works on the bacterial system your hormones and your skin both depend on.
The 7-strain probiotic complex
Seven clinically studied strains selected for women's gut–hormone health, led by L. rhamnosus SP1, the strain studied in adult acne.
Ahiflower® Omega 3·6·9
A plant-based seed oil rich in SDA, GLA and ALA, included to support a healthy inflammatory response in the gut. A compromised intestinal barrier disrupts both estrogen metabolism and skin.
No fish, no fillers, no aftertaste. Citrus-scented capsules, one a day, with or without food.
Skin moves on cycle time, not overnight.
This is the part most people get wrong. A probiotic is not a spot treatment. Colonization is dose- and time-dependent, and skin turns over on its own schedule on top of that. The SP1 study measured at 12 weeks for a reason. Here is the arc most women describe.
Digestion settles first
The gut responds fastest. Less bloating and more regular digestion usually come before anything visible on your face. Skin will not have changed yet, and that is expected.
The premenstrual flare softens
One to two full cycles in is where women most often notice it: fewer new spots in the week before their period, and less of the deep, tender kind along the jaw.
The compounding window
This is the window the clinical research used. Clearer skin between cycles, fewer marks left behind, and a month that stops feeling like a countdown to a breakout.
Consistency beats intensity. One capsule, every day, for 90 days. Missing a few days will not undo your progress, but starting and stopping every two weeks means you never reach the window where the research found results. That is why our best-value option is a full 90-day supply.
1,400+ clinicians, including OB/GYNs, share it with patients.
"As an Integrative Reproductive Endocrinologist, I see the profound impact hormones have on people's lives every day. I am so excited there is now a probiotic that focuses on the foundational role the gut microbiome has on hormone regulation."
"So exciting to have an everyday probiotic that actually supports women's health. The gut has endocrine inputs and outputs that regulate so much, from menstrual cycles and weight to immune function and mood."

Questions women ask us most
How long until I see a difference in my skin?+
Digestive changes often come first, within the first two weeks. Skin usually takes one to two full cycles, roughly 30 to 60 days, and the clinical research on our hero strain measured results at 12 weeks. If you are going to judge it, judge it at 90 days.
Will my skin purge or get worse before it gets better?+
There is no evidence that probiotics cause a purge the way some topical actives do. This works on the gut, not on skin cell turnover. Most women report digestive changes in the first two weeks and nothing dramatic on their face either way.
Can I keep using my regular skincare or prescriptions?+
Yes. This is a daily oral probiotic, not a topical, so it does not compete with what you already put on your face. If you are on a prescription acne treatment, keep your dermatologist in the loop as you would with any new supplement.
How is this different from the probiotic I already take?+
Most probiotics are built for digestion, with strains chosen for gut comfort. Hormone Balance ES1 uses seven strains selected for the gut–hormone axis, led by L. rhamnosus SP1, the strain studied specifically in adult acne, and pairs them with Ahiflower® Omega 3·6·9 for the intestinal barrier.
Does it contain hormones or antibiotics?+
Neither. No synthetic hormones, no hormone analogues, no antibiotics, no soy isolates, no stimulants. It does not push your estrogen up or down. It supports the bacteria that regulate how your body clears it.
Is my acne actually hormonal?+
The pattern is the tell. Hormonal acne tends to sit on the lower third of the face, along the jaw, chin and neck, to be deep and tender rather than surface-level, and to flare in the week or so before your period. If your breakouts arrive on a schedule, that is a hormonal signal rather than a hygiene one.
Can I take it in perimenopause?+
Yes. Perimenopause is when many women feel the difference most. Cycles get less predictable, skin changes, and the premenstrual week hits harder, all while the estrobolome's role in clearing estrogen keeps mattering. Hormone Balance ES1 is built for the cycling and perimenopausal years.
Do I need to refrigerate it?+
No. Store it at room temperature, out of direct sunlight. Take one capsule daily with water, with or without food, whatever makes it easiest to remember.
Is it safe with my medication, or if I'm pregnant?+
It's hormone-free, vegan, third-party tested, and free from nine major allergens. That said, if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medication, talk to your healthcare provider before starting, as you should with any new supplement.
What if it doesn't work for me?+
Email hello@dailynouri.com within 30 days of delivery and we'll arrange a return and full refund. We'd rather you tell us it didn't work than quietly give up on it.
