For seven to ten days a month you are not quite yourself, and then your period arrives and it lifts. That timing is the clue. What happens in the luteal phase is governed by how sharply your hormones fall, and how much used estrogen your gut clears rather than sends back. That system is called the estrobolome, and Hormone Balance ES1 is the daily probiotic built to support it.
- Works on the estrobolome, the gut bacteria that regulate estrogen clearance
- 7 clinically studied strains, 12 billion CFU, chosen for the gut–hormone axis
- Plus 265 mg Ahiflower® Omega 3·6·9, plant-based, no fish oil burps
- One small capsule a day, every day, including the days you feel fine

What women say about their cycle on it.
Wonderful
"As someone who has pcos this product has been so helpful with regulating my hormones. I feel more energized, less anxious, and happier. I have been losing weight easier than before and my acne has been improving. I never thought a supplement could help this much. Thank you Daily Nouri, I hope these results don't go away."
It works!! :)
"I am on day 5 and I can honestly say it works. Like the rest of the reviews, I've noticed a decrease in bloating (something I've struggled with) … In terms of the hormones, I'm sure it'll take more time for me to see results but I do feel like a weight has been lifted of my body. Highly recomment!!!"
Very happy
"I've been taking it everyday for about 2 weeks now & have noticed my bloat has decreased, I'm about a inch smaller in my waist (swear) … for me this has def helped with hormonal odor, weight/water retention, gut & all over wellness. I subscribed monthly to save a few bucks since I see myself taking this long term consistently."
Amazing
"Waited a month before I posted a review. I'm 42, very active, however needed something to help with weight gain, and energy. Already on my second body, lost 3 lbs and feel great."
You know the week. It arrives on schedule.
Somewhere after ovulation, something changes. You are shorter with people you love. You cry at things that would not normally move you. Your body feels two sizes larger than it did last week. Then your period starts and it lifts, and you tell yourself it was not that bad, and a month later it happens again.
Mood that drops sharply in the second half of your cycle and lifts when your period starts
Irritability and a short fuse that you apologise for afterwards
Anxiety or a sense of dread that has no obvious cause
Bloating and water retention that make your clothes stop fitting for a week
Breast tenderness and heaviness that starts days before anything else
Cramps and back pain that arrive with the period, not before it
Headaches that keep to a monthly schedule
Sugar and carb cravings that appear at the same point every month
Sleep that breaks in the small hours during that week and is fine the rest of the month
Digestion that changes with the cycle: constipated one week, urgent the next
Symptoms that have got noticeably worse since your early thirties
Being told this is normal, and quietly planning your month around it anyway
These are not separate problems. They cluster in the same window because they share the same driver, and the timing is the diagnosis. Anything that tracks with your cycle is following your hormones.
Your hormone levels can be normal. The drop is what you feel.
A common assumption is that a difficult luteal phase means your hormone levels are wrong. Measured across groups, they usually are not. What differs is sensitivity to the change: how steeply estrogen and progesterone drop in the second half of the cycle, and how much your brain reacts to that drop.5 A steadier fall is an easier week.
The estrobolome is the group of gut bacteria that metabolize estrogen. First named in peer-reviewed science in 2011, it decides how much used estrogen gets recirculated back into your body versus cleanly excreted.1
Your liver tags used estrogen for removal
Once estrogen has done its job, the liver marks it "spent" through glucuronidation and sends it to the gut to leave the body.
Your gut bacteria decide what happens next
Bacteria in the estrobolome produce beta-glucuronidase, which can cut that tag back off, reactivating the estrogen and returning it to circulation instead of letting it go.2
Your luteal phase reads the result
Recirculated estrogen changes the shape of the second half of your cycle: the ratio it holds against progesterone, and how abruptly both fall in the final days.3
Modern life pushes this system in one direction. Low fiber, chronic stress, alcohol, disrupted sleep, antibiotics and constant xenoestrogen exposure all reduce microbial diversity and raise beta-glucuronidase activity. You do not need to fix all of them. You need a consistent daily counterweight.
Two routes run from your gut to that week.
The clearance route
A microbiome low in diversity, or skewed toward high beta-glucuronidase activity, reabsorbs estrogen that should have left. Researchers call this the estrogen–gut microbiome axis and connect its disruption to a range of estrogen-mediated conditions.3
The physical symptoms of that week — the bloating, the fluid, the breast tenderness — track most closely with this side of the system.
The brain route
Roughly 90% of the body's serotonin is made in the gut, and specific gut bacteria regulate its production directly.4 Estrogen also modulates serotonin signalling, which is why a steep estrogen fall and a low-serotonin week arrive together.6
Meanwhile progesterone's metabolite allopregnanolone acts on the same brain receptors as anti-anxiety medication. Its withdrawal in the last days before your period is a leading explanation for the mood change.5
This is the part that reframes it. The gut–brain axis is bidirectional and well documented,7 so the emotional symptoms of that week are not separate from the physical ones and they are not a character flaw. They run on the same wiring, and the gut sits upstream of both.
What this is not. There is no hormone in this bottle and nothing that alters your cycle's timing. It works on the bacterial system that sits upstream of how your cycle feels.
Why we ask for three cycles, not three days.
Two clocks run here, and both are slow. The first is colonization: a probiotic has to establish before it changes anything, and that is dose- and time-dependent. The second is your cycle itself. You get one data point a month, and no single month is a fair test, because a stressful or under-slept cycle will be worse regardless of what you take.
Three cycles is the smallest honest sample
The randomised trials that have found effects from probiotic supplementation ran for twelve weeks. That is also three menstrual cycles: enough to see a pattern instead of a coincidence. Judge it in month three, comparing that luteal phase to the one you had before you started.
The axis is established, the strain effects are specific
That gut bacteria influence mood and stress response through the gut–brain axis is well established in peer-reviewed work.4,7 Effects are strain-specific, so we cite the mechanism this formula is built around rather than borrowing another product's trial result.
Track it, do not guess. Note three things on the worst day of this cycle: mood, bloat, sleep. Do the same in month three. Memory is unreliable about a week you are relieved to have finished.
A closer look at Hormone Balance ES1.
Built for the gut–hormone axis.
The usual options for that week are a painkiller, a diuretic, or waiting it out. None of them touch what is upstream. Hormone Balance ES1 has no hormone, no botanical pushing your estrogen up or down, and nothing you take only when symptoms arrive. It supports the bacterial system your cycle already depends on.
The 7-strain probiotic complex
Seven clinically studied strains selected for women's gut–hormone health, not a generic digestive blend repackaged for women.
Ahiflower® Omega 3·6·9
A plant-based seed oil rich in SDA, GLA and ALA, included to support a healthy inflammatory response in the gut. A compromised intestinal barrier disrupts estrogen metabolism, so barrier integrity is part of the same job.8
No fish, no fillers, no aftertaste. Citrus-scented capsules, one a day, with or without food.
Formulated for every life stage. The luteal phase changes character through your thirties and forties and again in the transition, but the estrobolome's job never stops mattering.
Measured in cycles, because that is how you will notice.
Take it every day, including the two weeks you feel completely fine. That is the part people get wrong: the work happens in the follicular phase, and the result shows up in the luteal one. Here is the arc most women describe.
Digestion settles first
The gut responds fastest. Less bloating day to day, more regular digestion, and often less of the premenstrual water weight. Mood in that week may be unchanged, and that is expected this early.
The week starts to soften
This is where women most often notice it: the drop feels less like a cliff, breast tenderness eases, and the crash arrives later and lands lighter than it used to.
The comparison window
Three cycles in you can compare like with like. The most common report is not that the week vanished, but that it stopped running the month.
Consistency beats intensity. One capsule, every day, for three full cycles. Missing a day will not undo anything, but stopping and restarting every few weeks means you never reach the window where the research found results. That is why our best-value option is a full 90-day supply.
1,400+ clinicians, including OB/GYNs, share it with patients.
"As an Integrative Reproductive Endocrinologist, I see the profound impact hormones have on people's lives every day. I am so excited there is now a probiotic that focuses on the foundational role the gut microbiome has on hormone regulation."
"So exciting to have an everyday probiotic that actually supports women's health. The gut has endocrine inputs and outputs that regulate so much, from menstrual cycles and weight to immune function and mood."

The four foods that do the most work with it.
A probiotic supports the bacteria you have. What you eat decides what those bacteria have to work with. Neither substitutes for the other, and the women who tell us the difference was obvious are almost always doing both. None of this requires a diet or an app.
Fiber is the single highest-leverage change. Most American women eat roughly half the recommended 25 grams a day. Fiber feeds the bacteria that keep the gut barrier intact, and it binds spent estrogen in the gut so it leaves rather than being reabsorbed.8
Cruciferous vegetables
Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, kale. They supply glucosinolates, precursors to compounds the liver uses in the first phase of estrogen metabolism, alongside a meaningful fiber load.
Practically: one serving most days. Roasted, or shredded raw into a slaw.
Ground flaxseed
The richest common dietary source of lignans, plant compounds your gut bacteria convert into weak estrogen-modulating metabolites. It has to be ground; whole seeds pass through largely intact.
Practically: one to two tablespoons daily into yoghurt, oats or a smoothie. Keep it in the fridge.
Magnesium-rich foods
Pumpkin seeds, dark chocolate, black beans, spinach, almonds. Magnesium is involved in muscle relaxation and sleep quality, and the craving for chocolate in that specific week is not a coincidence worth fighting.
Practically: a handful of pumpkin seeds or a square of dark chocolate daily, not only during the hard week.
Protein at breakfast
Thirty grams in your first meal blunts the glucose swings that make the luteal phase harder than it needs to be, and steadies the afternoon crash that feeds the evening mood dip.
Practically: eggs, Greek yoghurt, cottage cheese or a shake. Before coffee, not after.
Two things worth subtracting. Alcohol competes for the same liver pathways that clear estrogen and reliably degrades sleep, which makes every symptom in that week louder. Caffeine after midday does the same to sleep at the point in your cycle when sleep is already fragile. Neither has to be zero to matter.
Start with fiber and the capsule. If you change one thing this cycle, get closer to 25 grams of fiber a day and take it every morning. The rest can wait until that is a habit.
Questions women ask us most
How long until I notice a difference?+
Digestive changes often come first, within the first two weeks. Cycle-related changes usually take one to two full cycles. The randomised trials in this field measured their endpoints at twelve weeks, which is also three cycles. If you are going to judge it, judge it in month three against the cycle you had before you started.
Do I take it all month, or only in the second half?+
All month, every day. This is the most common mistake. It is not a remedy you reach for when symptoms start. It works by supporting a bacterial population, and populations need consistency. The capsule you take on day 6, when you feel completely fine, is doing the work you will feel on day 24.
Does it contain hormones or anything hormone-like?+
No. No synthetic hormones, no hormone analogues, no soy isolates, no stimulants. It does not push your estrogen up or down and it will not change the length or timing of your cycle. It supports the bacteria that regulate how your body clears estrogen.
Will it help with cramps?+
We won't claim that. Cramping is driven largely by prostaglandins released as the uterine lining sheds, which is a different mechanism from the one this works on. What women most often report changing is the run-up: the bloating, the fluid, the tenderness and the mood in the days before bleeding starts.
Can I take it on hormonal birth control?+
Yes. It is hormone-free, so there is no overlapping mechanism and nothing that would interfere with contraception. Many customers take both. As with any supplement, mention it to the provider who manages your prescription.
What if it is more than a difficult week for me?+
Then please talk to a doctor, and take this as a supporting player rather than the answer. If the second half of your month regularly affects your work, your relationships or your safety, that deserves clinical attention and there are effective treatments for it. A daily probiotic is not a substitute for care, and we would rather say so.
I'm in my forties and it has got worse. Why?+
Cycles become less predictable as the transition begins, and hormonal swings often get sharper before they get smaller. That is precisely the window where the drop, rather than the level, is doing the damage. It is one of the most common points at which women tell us they started.
How is this different from the probiotic I already take?+
Most probiotics are built for digestion, with strains chosen for gut comfort. Hormone Balance ES1 uses seven strains selected for the gut–hormone axis and pairs them with Ahiflower® Omega 3·6·9 for the intestinal barrier. Different job, different formula.
Do I need to refrigerate it?+
No. Store it at room temperature, out of direct sunlight. Take one capsule daily with water, with or without food, whatever makes it easiest to remember.
Is it safe with my medication, or if I'm pregnant?+
It's hormone-free, vegan, third-party tested, and free from nine major allergens. That said, if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medication, talk to your healthcare provider before starting, as you should with any new supplement.
What if it doesn't work for me?+
Email hello@dailynouri.com within 30 days of delivery and we'll arrange a return and full refund. We'd rather you tell us it didn't work than quietly give up on it.
